New UK GEMINI XML schema available

The UK GEMINI Profile was launched at AGI2004 and now, just over a year later, we are pleased to announce the release of the new UK GEMINI XML schema. Please note that the schema is still subject to change particularly prior to the final ratification of the ISO 19139 schema. However, we do not expect any major changes. If you are a system supplier or software developer and would like to receive a copy of the latest version of the new schema please email info@gigateway.org.uk.

How to connect MetaGenie to a database

Many MetaGenie users are interested to know whether it's possible to create a unique ID to help manage and search their own personal metadata collections and by connecting to a database you can. MetaGenie can be configured to link up to any ODBC or JDBC compliant database such as Oracle, SQL Server, Informix, Sybase or MS Access, etc.

As an example we have prepared a step-by-step document that explains how to connect to an MS Access database, and it is available to download. Contact Robert Turner if you have any technical questions about linking to a database.

Merry Christmas to all our readers!

We wish you all the best for Christmas and the New Year and hope that you will continue to support us in reaching our goals as set out in the Operating Plan for 2005-2006.
