Roadmap for releasing MetaGenie v2.0 confirmed

Snowflake Software Ltd, the software developers working with the AGI on the development of our popular metadata editing tool, have confirmed that there will be three stages in the delivery of MetaGenie v2.0.

The first stage is expected to see the delivery of the new UK GEMINI compliant software by the end of this month and it will be this release that is demonstrated at AGI 2005. Stage two is planned for November and will include tools for converting your MetaGenie v1.0 (NGDF compliant) records to MetaGenie v2.0 (UK GEMINI compliant) records. The delivery of the final stage is anticipated for December and will account for some of the suggested user enhancements that came out of last year's successful series of metadata training days across the country.

We are encourage users to continue using MetaGenie v1.0 as stage two will help people to migrate their metadata to UK GEMINI compliant records.

Activating Metadata workshop a success

This recent workshop was held on 6th-7th July 2005 in Cambridge to investigate how to make metadata useful for the exploitation of data. The workshop was well attended by individuals who were involved in the creation, distribution and use of spatial data. The workshop agenda and summary are now available to download. Please email info@gigateway.org.uk if you would like to request a copy of any of the workshop presentations listed in the agenda.
