NIMSA Consultation Report available

With the current National Interest Mapping Services Agreement (NIMSA) coming to an end in March 2006 the ODPM has published a document reporting the views of a public consultation into the future of NIMSA beyond 2006. Here are some of the positive comments relating to gigateway:-

"In terms of absolute numbers, the gigateway service was the most used service, and had the greatest number of users claiming to be highly or somewhat dependent on the service"

"The third best-known activity was gigateway, the metadata service provided by the Association for Geographical Information (AGI) on behalf of Ordnance Survey."

"The third largest theme was that the national interest should include a commitment to standards, the interoperability of datasets and metadata."

"Consistent with this theme of more support for downstream mapping processes were the comments regarding incorporating commitments to data and metadata standards and interoperability concerns within the NIMSA definition. In discussing how mapping provides a “framework” and “infrastructure” for the country, it needs to be recognised that this incorporates not only the data content, but also the structure and format in which that data is held and disseminated."
