MetaGenie
Online - the new and easy way to publish your metadata!
In July
GIgateway launched an Online version of MetaGenie, its popular metadata
creation tool. There really isn't a simpler way to publicise
the existence of your geographic datasets - and its
free! Read on to find out more...
What is
MetaGenie on-line?
MetaGenie on-line is a
browser-based version of the popular MetaGenie tool. It enables organisations to publish and update metadata directly on
the GIgateway Catalogue node. It is aimed at smaller organisations
that have too few metadata records to justify setting up their own node.
| I am one of
those organisations - How do I use it?
Firstly fill in a registration
form. We will reply within 7 days and issue you with a username and
password to access the service. Once these are issued, you may login at any
time through the GIgateway website.
Is it easy to
use?
Yes – very. Its intuitive interface is based on the stand-alone version
of the tool, which has received considerable praise from users. A
comprehensive user-guide is also available on-line. The in-built validation
means that creating an invalid metadata record is impossible.
When will my
records be published?
Metadata records will usually be published on the GIgateway website within 24
hours of making a change. However, please note that this is not guaranteed.
Can I update
records once published?
Yes – simply login
to MetaGenie On-line and select the “open existing” option.
