MetaGenie
is GIgateway's specially
developed metadata creation software .
This innovative and freely available tool enables you
to easily create geographic metadata compliant with
the UK GEMINI specification. The tool
comes with a comprehensive User Guide and useful ‘Help’ windows
to steer you effortlessly through the creation of a
metadata record.
MetaGenie
allows you to create metadata in two different ways:
- by
entering your data directly into the tool to create
individual metadata records
- by
automatically saving and exporting your metadata records
from your own database, even if a database structure
for these records is not present.
Download
and use of MetaGenie is free of charge. All we ask in return
is that you or your organisation make available your geospatial
metadata records in the national
interest, by publishing them on GIgateway's Data
Locator.
This
desktop version is ideal for those organisations who hold
a reasonably large number of geographic datasets for which
standards based metadata is required. This metadata can
then be made available both internally via a database,
and externally via GIgateway.

MetaGenie
Showbox
MetaGenie
showbox allows you to calculate a coordinate bounding
box for anywhere in Great Britain.
To
find a placename, administrative area or postcode area,
enter its name and click on the arrow. You can also
use the map to interactively locate it, by using the mouse
to draw a box on the map, or selecting a zoom level from
the scale on the right of the map and using the pan buttons.
MetaGenie Online
An Online version of MetaGenie is now available to make publishing your metadata even easier. This web based tool, based on the original desktop version, is ideal for those organisation wishing to make available a smaller number of metadata records directly via the GIgateway catalogue. It too creates standards compliant metadata, but is intended as a publishing tool only and so will not attach to a database.
Registering to use MetaGenie Online is simple and cost free; you provide us with your details and we'll set up an account and password for you so that you can begin to create and maintain online metadata records straight away.
